M-Audio Strike, by the Digidesign Advanced Instrument Research group, is an RTAS instrument plug-in that makes it easy to create, control and produce professional drum performances from within your ProTools environment.
You pick the kit and tell the drummer how to play: Adjust the playing intensity, complexity, timing, groove, dynamics, and much more all in real time.
A groundbreaking new performance engine intelligently adjusts the timbre of the instrument as dynamics change, without producing the typical machine gun effect or audible velocity layer switching.
Choose from more than 1,500 editable preset patterns based on real recordings, or drum up your own MIDI performances. Strike offers five kits with up to 12 instruments and 300 samples per instrument. Using a proprietary lossless compression technology, M-Audio Strike stores an astounding 20 GB of 24bit audio in just 5GB of space, so you have a wealth of sounds at your immediate disposal. Once you've built the kit of your dreams and captured the perfect performance, take advantage of the built-in mixing console with its comprehensive palette of effects processing and multi-channel output capability.
Meet Your New Drummer
With Strike, nailing the perfect groove is as simple as choosing one of the high-definition kits and telling the “virtual” drummer how to play. You can adjust the playing intensity, complexity, timing, groove, dynamics and much more—all in real time. For more control, you can use the automation features in Pro Tools to polish all of your moves and get the perfect drum performance. Connect your MIDI controller to tweak your performance on the fly using knobs, sliders, drum pads, or anything else that sends MIDI data. And for the ultimate in control, try out the M-Audio Trigger Finger or Axiom keyboards—both include a set of velocity-sensitive drum pads and a host of assignable controllers.
Mix It Up
To help you get the perfect drum sound, Strike includes a built-in mixing console for full control over every aspect of the kit. Change virtual microphone settings, such as room ambience and leakage, then take advantage of dedicated 3-band EQ and two insert effects per channel. Strike’s onboard effects range from dynamics and limiting to reverb and delay, plus specialized tools like bit crusher and filter. The onboard mixer lets you easily adjust the overall level and panning for each drum and route individual sounds to separate mixer channels in Pro Tools software.

Strike’s proprietary real-time performance engine eliminates the mechanized artifacts of typical sample-playback devices to deliver human results with unparalleled realism. Increase the playing intensity and you’ll get a smooth dynamic response in the drum tone instead of audible velocity switches. Strike also lets you create your own custom patterns with the onboard Style Editor, or by functioning as a drum module in Pro Tools software.
