M-Audio has taken the technology used in their high end monitors to design desktop computer speakers that are a cut above the usual speakers found in this price range. Custom-tuned cabinets, optimized speaker design, and advanced crossover technology make a big difference. The StudioPro 3s offers features not typically found in monitors priced this affordably—MDF rather than plastic cabinets, internal acoustic foam for better bass response, custom port design for optimal efficiency and more.
The stereo “Aux” input allows you to plug in a secondary audio source (such as your portable music player) in addition to the main RCA inputs in the back. There is also a stereo headphone output next to the “Aux” jack that mutes the sound coming out of the speakers and redirects it to your headphones.
To be honest, neither "Studio" nor "Pro" describes these speakers. They are designed to replace the speakers that came with your computer, or to supplement the built in speakers in your laptop. We can't recommend them for studio use or pro monitoring - but then again, nothing in this price range would be suitable for that. If you are serious, you'll want to buy a pair Studiophiles. However, if you don't want to spend more than $100 and want decent speakers, these are a good choice. The Aux input is handy, although it would be nice if you could control the input level separately from the main volume. The front mounted headphone jack will save you from scrambling around the back of your computer, or plugging and unplugging your speakers all of the time.
