The Ultimate Exploration of Picking

Guitar Magic Picking & Rhythm is the ultimate master class on picking, the right hand and its approach to the guitar. The picking style that you will learn is the most modern picking style available. This program uses all of the latest techniques that will enable you to play faster than you ever dreamed you could play before and cleaner than you ever dreamed you could play before.

The Guitar Is A Unique Instrument

The guitar is a unique instrument and due to its complex and modern nature especially in regards to instruction, most guitarists never get to understanding the art of picking and the right hand. At best, guitarists who do get to the subject of picking, learn fragmentary concepts such as "alternate picking" or "sweep picking" for example, that leave them wasting years of time and energy with more guitar puzzle pieces that don't get them to where they want to be with their playability on the instrument. Their limited understanding of picking and the right hand limits their ability to express themselves on the guitar, not only in the most efficient way, but also in various styles and melodic expression.

Major Music School at College Tuition Rates

The student of the guitar simply will not find such a step by step, in-depth, comprehensive, modern instructional program for picking even from a major music school at college tuition rates. The combination of technology, methodology and presentation provides an unprecedented guitar learning opportunity that has not been available before and an opportunity from which many will never benefit. Remember, instruments, amps, gadgets, recording equipment, effects, etc. are all cool, as well as costly. Your education is something you can carry with you forever and it sure makes all the other toys a lot more fun when you really understand the nature of your instrument.

Covers All Single Note Scale and Arpeggio Lead Picking & Chord Rhythm Strumming

GM-Picking & Rhythm completely covers all single note scale and arpeggio lead picking as well as comprehensive picking for chord rhythm strumming. You will learn to pick the most efficient way depending on the style or piece of music that you are playing in either a single position on the fretboard or along the fretboard. You will also learn to play your scales and arpeggios in a full 3 octave range up and down the fretboard in the fastest, most fluid way possible with right hand based arpeggio and scale patterns and arrangements. You will finally learn how to really pick and strum your right hand for rhythm guitar which will turn you into a fluid, professional rhythm guitar player.

Save Time And Money, Learn the Right Way Now

A Superior Approach

Picking has always been an individual thing. Guitarist have been told that “picking is up to us”, “that it is an individual thing” and “to find your own way to do it”. If you look around at all of the guitarists that are playing, you are going to see some pretty individual picking styles. Some of these have benefits and some have serious drawbacks.

What this program has done is to analyze the job of picking. This course provides a superior approach to the job of picking on the guitar.

Some of you have been playing for a long time and you’ve probably already developed a comfortable way of holding the pick. This will not try to change what you are already successfully doing. However, this program will make suggestions that over a period of time, you can begin to incorporate into your own style of picking that will improve what you are doing. Not only that but a lot of the aspects of what they talk about you will be able to do immediately. So no matter how you are holding the pick now, or what you are doing, you are going to benefit and improve by being involved in this project.

When you buy tablature for music or licks, etc. you have all kinds of information except what picking stroke that you should use. All of that is going to be over for you, from this project, you are going to know how to pick everything that you need to pick.

You will be able to accomplish picking every single note if you want to. That is not always advisable or musical but guitarists need to be able to do it. Also, for example, if you are a jazz or fusion player, and you want to take a great saxophone solo and transcribe it for the guitar, you are going to find yourself into some pretty bizarre picking situations.

Why do guitarists need to be able to pick every note? That is so they have the choice of articulation. There may be a section of the music that you want to sound very percussive, you want it to just pop right off of the guitar, you want it to be very powerful and that is going to be with the pick. Also the ability to be able to pick everything if you want, means that you are no longer locked into hammers and pull-offs on everything that you do, which is going to give you that ghosted sound, and the swallowed sound in your lines.

So the ability to pick is going to be important. It won’t matter the type of guitar or strings you pick up, your technique will be able to handle it all. For example, if you are playing with others on an acoustic guitar and it comes time for you to solo, and you are locked into doing a lot of hammers and pull-offs in your picking style, your notes aren’t going to be coming out. If you are able to pick every note easily, you would be able to play as fast as you want and all of the notes would be coming out evenly.

It’s a matter of choices and being able to do the right thing at the right time. Being able to pick every note gives you that ability.

A Clear Vision Of The Fingerings

Learning your fingerings is key. It is only through the fingerings that you know where you are. Those have to be mastered first.

You have to understand the rules before you can break the rules. In Guitar Magic Visualizing Musicality, you learn about playing in position. Playing in position gives you a clear vision of the fingerings, where you are on the fretboard, and provides the visual framework for completely understanding the relationship of notes to chords, keys, harmony, to one another etc. Then when you start to apply the arpeggio style of picking, and you are looking for the most convenient way for the right hand to maneuver itself through the in-position fingerings, then you can reconfigure the fingerings. Now you are looking at a right hand perspective, which is why these are called pick friendly fingerings. They are fingerings in and of themselves that make sense for the right hand. This will also work out the best picking methods for in-position fingerings because you absolutely will be using both approaches in your improvisation.

The Most Complete Methodology Of Picking Ever Done For The Guitar

Many guitarists who play the guitar and have studied or taken lessons, hopefully have learned some aspects of proper picking technique. Many have never learned any picking technique.

There are 3 major aspects of this that is greatly missing in what guitarists acquire.

- First, there is not “one” picking technique that you always use. Yes, there is an overall picking approach that is ideal, that you strive for, which you will learn in this course. However, you also need to know when, where and why you use a different approach or technique. Everything you play won’t fit into one technique. You need to have an overall concept picking methodology to know what to do for a given musical situation.
- Secondly, you need fingerings that are favored to the right hand (picking hand) as much as possible. You need to understand how to pick all types of fingerings. This covers single note scales and arpeggios
- Thirdly, you also need to have a complete and consistent picking methodology for rhythm guitar picking. This includes knowing how to adjust your picking to the style being played.

With Guitar Magic Picking, you finally have access to the most complete methodology of picking ever done for the guitar. You will learn how to think about picking depending on what you may be playing on your instrument. You are taught the method for all scales and arpeggios, as well as rhythm guitar, and you are given musical application in a multitude of real world examples.

1. It’s all about economy of movement, the less distance you have to move, the more efficient your picking will be, the faster and more accurate (cleaner) you will be.
2. It expands upon the system of fingerings in Visualizing Musicality system and completes your fingerings for the guitar.
3. It teaches you how and why to hold and execute your picking in a very prescribed way. This not only gives you the most efficient, fastest and cleanest way to pick, but it also prevents carpal tunnel problems that occur from incorrect picking technique.
4. Learn the different approaches to picking from string to string and what is best overall as well as what approach is best when you can’t perform the “ideal” picking strokes due to the inherent practicality of what you are playing.
5. Learn the art of your arm sweep when you are “not striking the strings” on every beat of the music.
6. This system of arm movement dramatically improves your rhythm and rhythmic count, keeping it more fluid and easier to follow as you are actually playing rhythms in real time.
7. Alternate picking, sweep picking, cross picking, what is best and why.
8. Learn your scale and arpeggio patterns for the right hand, all easy to learn fingerings based on your Visualizing Musicality fingering system. You are expanding and building upon what you have learned all in a 100% consistent method from beginning to end.
9. Learn to play your scales and arpeggios in a 3 octave range.
10. Covers both rhythm and lead picking.
11. A huge analysis of rhythm examples played both live and on the virtual fretboard showing you the proper picking strokes in a multitude of styles, giving you a complete course of rhythm guitar application with the ultimate picking method.
12. Complete Etudes, musical compositions and tons of licks all played live and on the virtual fretboard showing all picking strokes for every single note played.

Slow Everything Down To Your Level

With tempo control, the program gives you the ability to slow everything down to your level, and then slowly speed things up until you can play each musical example as it should be played. To be able to slow a lick down and then methodically build it up is the best way to learn a lick or musical example. There is no other method of demonstration that will let you learn like this. There is not a better way to develop a superior technique then the midi demonstration in the program. This is because you can slow the example down until it is learned and internalized. Your mind doesn’t have the time to assimilate all of the info at the normal speed. Add looping, which lets you break the example up into “any sized slice of the example” that you desire, with the tempo control, and you have total control over playback. Combine this with the visual aspect of all the other information displayed on the fretboard and you are getting a whole sensory level of visual and audio stimuli for accelerated learning for the guitar.

What's The Difference Between Guitar Magic & Guitar Magic-Picking & Rhythm?

Guitar Magic teaches you music theory, soloing, rhythm, chords, arpeggios, and more. It's a comprehensive system for learning to play the guitar and for advancing your studies with it. An essential aspect of the Guitar Magic courseware is the Visualizing Musicality system of fingerings and improvisation.

While Guitar Magic covers the fundamentals of picking, such as how to correctly hold the pick and proper picking technique, GM Picking & Rhythm focuses exclusively on this topic. It thoroughly covers picking from basic to advanced topics, such as arranging your fingering patterns to optimize them for the right hand, when to use specific picking techniques and how to integrate them when approaching different musical scenarios. It also provides complete coverage of rhythm picking. Both courses provide detailed examples and in-depth exercises for all lessons.

GM - Picking & Rhythm expands upon the fingerings from Guitar Magic's Visualizing Musicality system and uses the same terminology, providing a consistent "language" for the instrument. To cover the subject of picking as it should be covered, it is taught as a completely separate courseware system .

What Should I Get First? Guitar Magic or the Picking & Rhythm Course?

Because it provides music theory, covers more subjects, and uses terminology that is expanded upon in the Picking & Rhythm course, you may want to start with Guitar Magic. However, Guitar Magic isn't a prerequisite for the Picking & Rhythm course. While it does expand upon the terminology with regard to finger patterns introduced in the Visualizing Musicality system, it was designed to be used either as a stand-alone course or in conjunction with Guitar Magic.

So - these two courseware systems cover different topics. It really just depends upon where you want to put your focus. If you want to learn fundamentals, focus on theory (basic or advanced), and understand the guitar better then purchase Guitar Magic. If you really want to develop your picking and rhythm technique specifically, then purchase the Picking & Rhythm course. Again, both courses can be used together.
