KONTAKT 4 contains a rich and diverse sound library. Seven stunning Instrument Collections are included: Choir, Orchestral, World, Vintage, Band, Synth and Urban Beats – containing 43 GB of professional quality samples and over 1,000 instruments. Each and every sound is instantly accessible via the attribute-based browser. Every instrument in KONTAKT 4 features extended Performance Views with controls that group together all the important parameters for a super-fast and efficient workflow.
True Tweakability
KONTAKT 4 offers endless possibilities to really get inside your samples. You can easily edit, loop, slice and time-stretch your sounds and pitch shift them in real time or tempo-sync them with the powerful Wave Editor. Draw your own custom envelopes directly into the sample waveform to easily and precisely modulate any parameter, or use step sequencers and flex envelopes to tweak your samples. Refine your sound even further with any of the 19 versatile studio-quality effects such as the convolution effect for super-realistic reverbs, or use the powerful surround sound features for cinematic productions.
New Features in Kontakt 4 compared to Kontakt 3
The KONTAKT 4 update provides several improvements and features that enhance the performance and ease-of-use for users.
Authentic Expression Technology (AET)
The Authentic Expression Technology sees KONTAKT 4 radically redefining the authentic reproduction of acoustic instruments with all their dynamics and articulations, while adding new options for creative sound design. In addition to the traditional way of sampling different volume levels of an instrument statically, AET is able to capture specific spectral characteristics of samples and gradually apply them to another samples in real-time, allowing you to seamlessly “morph” between different instruments' characteristics. This breakthrough allows for a great level in expression and realism when playing a sampled instrument.
AET is especially powerful applied to solo instruments with sustained sounds - such as strings, brass, woodwinds, and choir: You can hold down a key and then seamlessly fade with the Mod Wheel between different articulations (e.g. trumpet playing with and without mute) or volume/dynamic levels with different harmonics.
It's often possible to merge the acoustic characteristics of different instrument such as the piano and celesta in real time, opening new horizons for creative sampling and new kinds of hybrid instruments.
Expanded Sound Library: +10 GB
In addition to the six collections available in the previous version, KONTAKT 4 includes a comprehensive Choir Collection, recorded exclusively for Native Instruments, providing a complete set of soprano, alto, tenor and bass voices in different setups.
Several instruments of the Choir Collection makes use of the Authentic Expression Technology giving you a new level of control: the choir voices can seamlessly morph the vowels ("A-E-I-O-U") while holding a key/note, which is nearly impossible with other samplers.
In addition, the Orchestral Collection has been updated with a Solo Strings section, taken form the legendary Vienna Symphonic Library, and a concert hall organ, while the Vintage collection gets the famed Mellotron keyboard.
All in all, an extra 10 Gigabytes of new material enrich the KONTAKT library.
Expanded Convolution Effect Library
KONTAKT 4 comes with more than 300 new and professionally recorded impulse responses from a wide rang of rooms, concert halls, churches, speakers etc, to add super-realistic reverbs to your instruments or the sonic characteristics of high-quality hardware equipment (amps, speakers, hardware reverbs etc.).
The impulse response samples are provided by Echochamber, Studiodevices and Acousticas.
Improved Performance Views per Instrument
PERFORMANCE VIEWS provide custom control panels, that make Instrument-specific settings available without having to switch to Edit mode. In KONTAKT 4, a much larger control panel is available so each instrument has more important parameters accessible, as well as giving each instrument a distinctive feel through the easy-on-the-eye graphics.
Advanced Script Processor
The enhanced KONTAKT Script Processor gives many more options for designing custom Performance Views and for controlling other KONTAKT areas such as the master section (when writing 'multi scripts').
Attribute-Based Browser and Pre-Tagged Library
It's never been easier to find the right sound or instrument. With the attribute-based browser you can search via keywords or browse by instrument type (bass, piano, strings).
The complete KONTAKT 4 library has been pre-tagged for your convenience. You can also create custom attributes to tag your instruments according to your own criteria.
Attribute-based browsing works for Instruments, Multis, Banks, Groups, Presets, and Samples.
Lossless Sample Compression
The Lossless Sample Compression format 'NCW' with real-time encoding – reducing the size of samples by up to 50%. Instruments with high disk streaming load, such as Grand Pianos, benefit from the fact that less data has to be read from hard disk. Note that the complete KONTAKT library is delivered in uncompressed WAV format - the Lossless Sample Compression is just an option for your choice when you save instruments.

CHOIR:
The latest addition to the KONTAKT library is the Choir collection, sampled exclusively for Native Instruments, and providing a complete set of soprano, alto, tenor and bass voices in different setups. BAND:
This collection contains all standard band instruments found in genres like rock, jazz, funk, pop, r'n'b and hip-hop. It covers among other things, e-guitars, basses, acoustic drum-kits, a drawbar organ and various e-pianos. A highlight for sure is the extensive brass section, in which both solo instruments and complete horn sections are contained.
Band now also includes all the instruments from ELEKTRIK PIANO!
ORCHESTRAL:
The complete Vienna Symphonic Library Orchestra from the previous KONTAKT has been bolstered with the addition of Solo Strings plus a concert hall organ.
The immense variations in sound and articulation has been ensured by several special functions: Typical instrument playing techniques /articulations can be recalled live (e.g. tremolo, staccato, pizzicato, sforzando), the advanced convolution effect, legato mode, an ingenious Harmonizer, as well as a MIDI filter provide amazing possibilities for stunningly realistic productions.
WORLD:
The much-requested World Collection contains many exotic instruments from all over the globe - uniting some of the world's most different musical cultures. Flutes and reed instruments, bagpipes, plucked instruments and percussions generate a global pool of unusual sounds, offering unequaled creative opportunities for the producer.
SYNTH:
Here you will find the full range of contemporary synth pads, basses, leads and drum kits. Since the synthesizer collection possesses its own Performance View, you have the possibility of accessing in seconds the important parameters and tweaking the sound to your desire. Additionally this column contains an integrated drum computer for the synth drum kits - packed full of grooves from the go!
VINTAGE:
The Vintage Collection handles the legendary sounds of analog synthesizers and keyboards. Also included are drum machines, organs and string synths from the seventies, (including Mellotron), and the signature digital devices of the eighties. Only the original hardware was used for the sampling, and so carry all the character (and peculiarities) of the original material. The unique "Electronic Toys" - is a creative playground full of quirky electronic toy keyboards.
URBAN BEATS:
The Urban beats collection contains 50 ready-for-action drum loop production kits. Each production kit consists of a complete drum loop, single loop tracks (snare, hi-hat loop etc. separated) and the individual slices. Therefore you can vary and add accent to your loop with only a few keys. All contained loops have been exclusively produced for NATIVE INSTRUMENTS and are contained on no other sample CD.
