The Dan Dean Solo Strings is a culmination of many months of recording and editing. Solo Violin, Solo Viola and Solo Cello were recorded in stereo in various articulations (arco/vibrato, pizzicato, half-step and whole-step trills, spiccato and tremelo). Each note of each instrument was recorded in each articulation. There is no pitch-shifting or unnatural transposition artifacts commonly found in other libraries. Also, since each and every note of the instruments appears unaltered by pitch shifting, the bow and instrument body resonances as well as the overtones characteristically generated, are true throughout the entire range of all of the instruments. This creates a smoother, more "organic" sounding bank with even note-to-note transitions.  
 
On the technical side, GML microphone preamps and Apogee AD-8000 analog to digital converters were used throughout the sessions. Since the end result was to be in the 16 bit realm, Apogee's UV-22 process was used to retain as much of the high-bit rate detail as possible. Editing, as well as digital tuning and gain levelling, was done in ProTools 5.0 .  
 
Live string performances contain slight variations in pitch, vibrato and intensity. Since each and every note of all of the instruments was recorded and included in the banks, you will notice these slight variations. Since these variants would occur naturally in a performance with live musicians, it is these nuances that make the instruments sound more real.  
 
Giga Keyswitching  
An exciting new feature found only in Gigasampler/Gigastudio allows you to load a instrument and "keyswitch" between articulations by playing a "switching" key outside the instrument range on the keyboard. This allows you to load the full instrument and have instant access to all of the various articulations at the touch of a key! You can now play an arco passage, switch to pizzicato, spiccato or whatever on the fly. Load the "keyswitch" version of the instrument to access this feature.
