- Number of ports
- If you only need to connect one MIDI device, look for a 1 in, 1 out (1x1) interface
- If you might want to connect more than one device, or don't want to reconnect and disconnect various devices all of the time, look for a multi-port interface. Ensure that you buy an interface that will allow you to connect all of your MIDI devices directly to the computer. Although you use MIDI Thru to reduce the number of ports required, this decreases the direct control you have over the device, and increases the change of latency.
- Synchronization
- If you work with a number of MIDI devices, need to sync to audio or video, check to make sure that the type of sync you need is available on the interface
