- Number of Loops: The more loops a program includes, the more different mixes you can make initially, without having to create your own or invest in an additional loop library. If you’re looking to create your own grooves, the ability to make your own loops easily is an important feature to look for. You will also want to ensure the type of loops included with the program you select is compatible with your needs – e.g. dance, techno, house, etc.
- Loop Support: What loop formats do the program you choose support? If you want to add more loop libraries to your collection, you’ll want to be sure that the program you choose includes support for common loop formats, such as ACID, REX, WAV, AIFF or SDII.
- Plug-in Support: Does the program include support for third-party plug-ins? With support for plug-ins, such as VST, DXi, or Rewire, you can add effects to your mixes directly in your DJ software.
Live Applications: Is the software focused on creating music in a live or non-live (time-line) situation? If you want to take you’re laptop and DJ live on location, you’ll want to be sure you’re software is designed for live applications.- Sequencer Compatibility: Does the program include support for your sequencer? Will you be able to integrate the two programs together and transfer your grooves between programs? Does the program support ReWire? With ReWire, you can transfer audio data in realtime between two programs supporting ReWire.
