Price drop on MicroTrack II
M-Audio recently reduce the price on the MicroTrack II, making it one of the most affordable portable digital recorders on the market. It is almost the same price as Tascam's DR-07, but while the DR-07 includes a built in mic, records to an included 1GB SD card, the MicroTrack records to CF (not included), includes a removeable mic, and adds the ability to record from external mics by including phantom power and a mic pre. If you already have some nice mics and want a portable digital recorder to use with them, the MicroTrack is a great choice - especially at the new price!

Sibelius 6!
Sibelius 6 is now available! If you already own Sibelius, there are some very exciting features that make it worth the upgrade, and if you don't already have Sibelius, the new features will definitely tempt you!
There are more new features that we can cover in this blog entry, so for the complete list, you can skip right to our Sibelius 6 page for the details or the Sibelius 6 Upgrade to buy the upgrade. Here are our favorite new features:
- Integration with recording software: by adding support for the Rewire protocol, you can now sync Sibelius with recording software such as Pro Tools, Cubase or Sonar!
- Sing to input: AudioScore Lite is now included to allow you to make a monophonic recording and convert to notation, however, as with Photoscore Lite, the full AudioScore is more accurate, has more features, and is well worth buying if you plan on using this feature.
- Conduct your performance: tap and Sibelius will follow! You can adjust the tempo and have control over fermatas, etc. and Sibelius will not only follow you, but record your tempo changes.
- On-screen keyboards and fretboards: I always recommend using a MIDI keyboard with Sibelius, but if you don't have one, the new on-screen keyboards will make it easier to enter notation.
- Classroom control: this is brilliant! If you use Sibelius in a lab, you can now control all of the computers running Sibelius. This means you can send a starting worksheet or file to every computer, freeze computers to get students' attention (this one is my favorite feature!), send messages to students, or even gather everyone's work into a single folder at the end of the class.
- Versions: Have you ever written something better the first time around? Versions keeps track of revisions to your score, lets you look back at earlier versions of it, and see what changes were made since. Collaboration becomes a joy, and you can even add sticky Comments to leave notes for yourself, or others. This feature is ideal for teachers, as it allows you to see and report on what changes students have made to their scores. Students can add their own comments, and you can add comments as well with virtual sticky notes.

Now available - MidiTech - value and quality
We recently added a new line of value priced products from the German company MidiTech. These audio and MIDI interfaces are priced well below similar products from other manufacturers, but are of high quality and easy to use. In fact, most of the products are class compliant, which means you don't need to worry about downloading and installing drivers - just plug the device in, and your computer will automatically install everything to make it work! If you are considering a new audio interface (or external sound card), or need an easy and inexpensive way to connect your MIDI keyboard to your computer, be sure to check out the MidiTech products.
If you have records you've been meaning to convert to CD, the PhonoFace USB is the ideal solution, since it includes a built in phono pre-amp, so you can connect your turntable directly to your computer.
Despite its name, the GuitarFace is actually a great all around audio interface. It is the only USB sound card in this price range that includes phantom power for connecting condenser mics and it also includes mic pre-amps - all for under $100!
The MidiFace II Thru is also worth mentioning, as it doesn't use the "molded cable" design, but instead includes two removable MIDI cables. This helps to ensure that if you accidentally pull on the cables (by moving your keyboard, for example), the cables will likely disconnect, instead of ripping out from the interface and destroying it as often happens with "molded cable" interfaces. As well, you can easily connect your own, longer, MIDI cables if your computer is not close to your keyboard. As with most of their products, the MidiFace II is class complaint - just plug it in, and it will work!
