Melodyne 3 Now Shipping...
Melodyne 3 from Celemony is now shipping. They've updated their web site with some FAQs that help clarify some of the questions that surrounded their new release. For example, although Melodyne will now successfully work with polyphonic music in the same way you could with monophonic music with previous versions, you won't be able to edit or alter the individual notes of a chord. Instead, you will be able to make changes that affect the entire chord, but not individual notes.

Speakers...
I've had the opportunity to work with a number of different speakers in the past few weeks as I have been doing presentations on using technology in teaching music in Florida and Arizona. For my first session in Florida, M-Audio provided a pair of Studiophile BX5-A's. I've always been impressed with the BX5s, but I couldn't believe how well they filled the room! It was a fairly large conference room that could probably seat 150-200 people and yet the BX5s had no problem projecting right to the back of the room. I've really got to find an excuse for buying a pair for my office, as they sound great in smaller rooms as well.

I also had a pair of StudioPro 3's from M-Audio for a trade show booth at the FMEA and TIME conference in Florida. If you didn't want to spend a lot of money and still have a pair of decent monitors, these would be a good choice. However, I found them way too small for the booth, and you will probably find that they are a bit underpowered for anything beyond basic computer use.

My next presentations were in Phoenix, AZ, where I borrowed a pair of the new Edirol MA-1EX. The room was fairly small - it probably would seat 50 people. However, despite their incredibly small size, they actually filled the room with sound without any problems. They are USB speakers, and since they are class-compliant, I didn't need to install any drivers. I just connected to the USB port and was ready to go. I definitely am going to get a pair for traveling - they sound great, work with any Mac or PC and are just the right size.
